Project Background

The client is a large solid wood furniture factory in Malaysia, with annual revenue of $70 M USD. Local environmental regulations in 2024 required furniture industry VOCs emissions ≤30 mg/m³. The client had no VOCs treatment equipment and urgent installation was required.

The Challenge

Furniture factory spray stations are dispersed (5 separate spray booths), exhaust concentration fluctuates widely (50 mg/m³ during intermittent production, 800 mg/m³ during peak). Solution must adapt flexibly.

MUSI's Solution

MUSI proposed activated carbon adsorption + catalytic combustion (RCO) combination: 5 booths' exhaust collected centrally → honeycomb activated carbon adsorption (24 beds) → periodic hot air desorption → RCO catalytic combustion. 40% lower investment than RTO.

Equipment Configuration

Total exhaust25,000 m³/h
AdsorptionHoneycomb activated carbon (24 beds)
Adsorption efficiency≥92%
DesorptionHot air (160 °C)
RCO capacity5,000 m³/h (desorbed gas)
CatalystPt/Pd noble metal
Outlet concentration≤25 mg/m³
Carbon life12-18 months

Implementation

70-day delivery. The 5 spray booth duct connections were the challenge (varying distances and elevations).

Results

After commissioning, the project passed environmental authority validation. Emission concentration stable 18-22 mg/m³. Annual operating cost $46K USD lower than the RTO alternative.

Client Feedback

"We used to think environmental treatment was just 'burning money'. MUSI helped us find the most cost-effective solution — letting us focus on growth without distractions."
