Common Questions
Below are 18 of the most common questions from MUSI customers during consultation, purchase, and operation. If your question isn't covered, contact us for professional answers.
1[Selection] Powder coating or liquid coating — which is better for us?
It depends on your workpiece material and performance requirements. Generally: metal parts, high mechanical performance demand, large volume — powder coating (eco-friendly, thick durable film, lower cost). Plastic parts, high aesthetic demands (auto exterior) — liquid coating (finer finish, higher gloss). Contact MUSI engineers for a free selection consultation.
2[Selection] What is the typical investment range for a complete line?
Coating line investment varies widely — from $80K USD for small semi-automatic to $5M+ USD for fully robotic lines. Key factors: capacity (50K vs 5M pieces/year), automation level (manual vs full auto), coating type (powder/liquid/UV), environmental treatment (basic vs high-grade RTO). MUSI provides free investment estimates based on your specific requirements.
3[Selection] What is the typical delivery lead time?
Standard products: 30-45 days. Custom projects: 45-90 days. Complete workshop projects: 90-180 days. Lead time depends on equipment complexity, customer acceptance pace, and current production schedule. MUSI provides clear delivery commitments before contract signing — and maintains 98%+ on-time delivery for 5 consecutive years.
4[Selection] Can MUSI handle complete coating workshop projects?
Yes. MUSI has full EPC turnkey capability for complete coating workshops, having delivered turnkey projects from workshop design to commissioning for multiple customers globally. Our largest single project value reached $5M USD (Chile mining equipment manufacturer). See our Case Studies for details.
5[Operation] What is typical color-change time for powder coating?
Traditional booth: 30-60 minutes. MUSI's quick color-change system: 5-15 minutes. Color-change time depends on booth type (standard vs quick-change), color similarity (same family vs across families), and automation level. If your products require frequent color changes (5+ per day), choose quick color-change booth.
6[Operation] Should dust collection systems use electric or natural gas heating?
Where natural gas costs ≤$0.30/m³ and electricity ≥$0.10/kWh with continuous production, gas heating reduces operating costs by 35-50% vs electric. Electric heating advantages: zero local emissions, easy maintenance, lower upfront cost. For short production cycles or high cleanliness requirements, choose electric.
7[Operation] How much energy does a coating line consume?
Coating line energy is mainly dust collection system (60-70% of total) and supply/exhaust fans (15-20%). A medium powder coating line (1M pieces/year) typically consumes $50K-$110K USD per year, depending on capacity utilization. MUSI's energy-saving products consume 25-35% less than traditional equipment.
8[Operation] How can we reduce coating line operating costs?
Focus on five areas: dust collection system heat recovery (30-50% savings); circulation fan VFD conversion (20-35%); powder utilization improvement (15-20% on powder cost); intelligent shutdown control (15-25% comprehensive); energy structure optimization (e.g., electric to gas, 30-50%). MUSI provides energy retrofit services.
9[Operation] What spare parts should we keep in stock?
Recommended: Electrical (1 set each: contactor, breaker, PLC module, drive, sensor); Mechanical (1 batch each: chain links, bearings, seals); Spray (1-2 sets: gun nozzles, electrodes, powder hoses); Filters (activated carbon, HEPA filters). MUSI provides customized parts lists and inventory recommendations.
10[Environmental] How should we treat our VOCs emissions?
Depends on your exhaust airflow and concentration: ① Small flow (≤5,000 m³/h) + low concentration — activated carbon adsorption suffices; ② Large flow (5,000-50,000 m³/h) + medium-high concentration (≥500 mg/m³) — recommend RTO incineration; ③ Large flow + low concentration (≤500 mg/m³) — recommend zeolite rotor concentrator + RTO; ④ Medium concentration — RCO catalytic combustion. MUSI engineers provide free assessments.
11[Environmental] RTO vs activated carbon — which is more economical?
Short-term, activated carbon has lower investment, but long-term RTO is more economical. Example for 6,000 hours/year, 20,000 m³/h flow, 500 mg/m³ concentration: activated carbon annual operating cost ~$110K USD (carbon replacement + hazardous waste); RTO annual operating cost ~$40K USD (gas + maintenance). RTO's higher initial investment recovers in 3-5 years.
12[Environmental] What permits are needed for environmental equipment commissioning?
Typically: ① Environmental impact assessment (EIA) approval (during project initiation); ② Construction phase environmental registration; ③ Application for environmental commissioning after equipment installation; ④ CEMS online monitoring data uploaded; ⑤ Pollutant discharge permit (or amendment). MUSI provides full technical support from equipment design through commissioning approvals.
13[Service] How are out-of-warranty repairs charged?
Out-of-warranty service charges material cost only + engineer travel expenses; technical service is free. Material prices are transparent and travel expenses are charged at actual cost. Within warranty (excluding misuse), all faults are repaired free of charge.
14[Service] Where are MUSI's service centers?
Headquarters in Changzhou + many global service partners: Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, India, Malaysia, UAE, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Egypt, Mexico, Brazil. Coverage continues to expand based on customer needs.
15[Service] Can we sign annual technical service contracts?
Yes. MUSI offers annual technical service contracts including 4 preventive inspections, 24-hour phone support, remote diagnostics, parts discount procurement. Specifics customized to customer needs. Cost typically 3-5% of equipment value annually.
16[Other] Which countries does MUSI export to?
Currently exporting to 36+ countries: Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Russia, Poland, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, South Africa, Egypt, Australia, and more. International business represents about 25% of MUSI's annual revenue.
17[Other] Can we visit MUSI's factory?
Absolutely. MUSI's Changzhou factory always welcomes international visitors. Book at least 1 day in advance via phone (+86 181 5173 1332). We arrange pickup, dedicated guide, in-process equipment tour, and reference room visit. Located in Wujin District, Changzhou — 40 minutes from Changzhou Benniu Airport, 25 minutes from Changzhou Railway Station.
18[Other] Do you accept e-commerce platform orders?
Industrial coating equipment is high-value and highly customized — not suitable for direct e-commerce orders. MUSI's standard sales process: customer enquiry → engineer engagement → site survey → solution design → quotation confirmation → contract signing. Total process typically 2-4 weeks. Spare parts and consumables can be ordered through MUSI's online parts portal — contact your sales rep for details.
