Automotive Parts Coating Line for Tier-1 Supplier
Project Background
The client is a leading Tier-1 automotive parts supplier in Vietnam, producing brackets and connectors for Japanese and Korean OEM assembly plants. Their existing semi-automatic coating line could not meet new capacity targets or quality standards required by the OEMs.
The Challenge
The client set three hard requirements for the new line: daily output of at least 12,000 pieces; film thickness tolerance ±10 μm; full IATF 16949 system compliance for OEM audit. At the same time, the existing factory measured 130 m × 20 m, and the new line had to fit within these constraints.
MUSI's Solution
After a site survey and process analysis, MUSI's engineering team designed an overhead chain fully automatic powder coating line: automatic loading → 5-station pretreatment (degrease, rinse, phosphate, rinse, dry) → electrostatic powder spray → 200 °C bridge oven curing → forced air cooling → automatic unloading — all within a precise 120 m envelope.

Implementation
The project ran 90 days from contract signing to production launch — 60 days of equipment manufacturing, 20 days of installation, 10 days of commissioning. MUSI deployed a 6-person project team on-site, working closely with the client's engineering team. 18 coordination meetings during construction resolved various site issues.
Results
After commissioning, the line achieved stable output of 14,000 pieces/day — 65% higher than the previous line. Film thickness pass rate jumped from 92% to 99.2%. The line passed Toyota Vietnam and Honda Vietnam OEM audits in the same year. Annual orders grew 38% YoY, and the new line achieved payback in 14 months.
