Energy-Storage Box Coating Lines for Africa: Compact Lines for Local Assembly
Quick answer: As solar mini-grids and commercial storage spread across Africa, more battery enclosures are being assembled locally. A line for this stage should be compact and robust: batch or semi-automatic booths, an oven that runs on the fuel that is actually available, a rain test for sealing, and a layout that can grow into a continuous line later.
Designing for local conditions
| Power | plan for grid interruptions — controls that restart safely and ovens that can finish a cure cycle after a short outage. |
|---|---|
| Heat source | choose LPG, diesel or electric heating based on local supply and cost, not habit. |
| Dust and heat | filtered booth supply air and closed booths keep sand out of the film. |
| Skills | simple, well-documented controls and on-site training matter as much as the equipment. |

Start compact, grow later
A first line might use rail transfer carts between a blasting room, one or two paint booths and a drying room. With the building laid out for it from day one, the same plant can later add a continuous conveyor and automatic spraying as volumes grow.

Reference line configuration
For reference, a current 20-ft energy-storage box line design handles boxes of 6,058 × 2,438 × 2,591 mm up to 2,500 kg on a box-pulling chain, with automatic blasting, primer, intermediate and topcoat booths of 10 × 6.6 × 5.2 m, paint drying at 80–120 °C, powder curing at 200–220 °C, a rain test chamber and 160,000 m³/h of VOC treatment. The full table is on our container line case; MUSI’s fastest energy-storage box lines release one finished box per minute.
FAQ
How much space does a compact box line need? It depends on box size and output; send your box dimensions and target volume and we will propose a layout.
