Alloy Wheel Painting Lines for Southeast Asia: Rotation, Clean Air and Humidity Control

Quick answer: Alloy wheels are sold on their finish. A wheel line needs carriers that rotate each wheel in front of the guns, clean pressurised booth air so no dust lands in the clear coat, and — in Southeast Asia — humidity control between pretreatment and painting.

Key design points

Rotationchain-driven rotating carriers on a floor rail or overhead conveyor so spokes, windows and rim edges get even film.
Booth airfiltered, constant-pressure supply air and water-curtain or dry filtration for overspray.
Coating stackcommonly powder primer, liquid basecoat and a clear coat, each with its own flash and cure.
Heating and coolingstable cure temperatures and forced cooling before the next coat.

Powder and liquid systems for alloy wheels: what each stage does

Stage Purpose on a wheel line Typical choice in Southeast Asia
Pretreatment Remove machining oil, etch and passivate the alloy Multi-stage spray tunnel with chrome-free conversion coating
Dry-off Remove rinse water from spokes and bolt holes Convection oven with air knives at the exit
Primer Corrosion base and filiform protection Powder primer on an automatic booth with reciprocators
Colour coat Metallic or solid colour Liquid base coat in a temperature-controlled booth, or powder for solid colours
Clear coat Gloss and chemical resistance Acrylic powder clear or 2K liquid clear
Curing Full cure of primer, colour and clear Gas convection ovens with logged profiles; one oven per coat or a shared oven on a loop
Handling No hanger marks on the visible face Spindle conveyor or hooks through the hub bore

Why humidity and heat change the line design

Plants in Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia run at high ambient humidity for most of the year. On a wheel line this shows up as flash rust between pretreatment and dry-off, moisture in the powder supply air, and slower solvent flash-off in liquid booths. The usual answers are a shorter transfer between the last rinse and the dry-off oven, dehumidified compressed air and booth supply air, and a heated flash-off zone before the clear coat oven. The Southeast Asia humidity guide covers the same controls for enclosure lines.

FAQ

Water curtain or dry booths? Water curtains capture liquid overspray well and are common in wheel shops; dry filter booths are simpler to run. The choice depends on paint type and local water treatment.
