  1. Required output: for example 400 parts per hour.
  2. Parts per carrier: for example 4, so 100 carriers per hour.
  3. Carrier pitch: largest part width plus 150-250 mm clearance, for example 0.6 m.
  4. Line speed = carriers per hour x pitch / 60 = 100 x 0.6 / 60 = 1.0 m/min.
  5. Oven length = line speed x cure time. At 1.0 m/min and 15 min cure, 15 m.

Running the calculation in the other direction is a useful sanity check on any quotation: if the supplier’s oven length divided by their stated line speed does not equal a sensible cure time, the line has not been engineered.
